INOSITOL also known as myo-inositol is a carbocyclic sugar that is abundant in mammalian and brain tissues. It is involved in this synthesis of phospholipids which are essential to the digestion and absorption of fats, facilitate the uptake of fatty acids by the cells and regulate the transport of material in and out of the cells. Because of the abilities mentioned above Inositol also helps prevent hardening of the arteries, metabolizes fat and cholesterol, removes fats from the liver and is important in the formation of lecithin.  Inositol can be found in brewers yeast, lecithin and green leafy vegetables such as spinach turnip and mustard greens.
One major interaction that should be noted in dark green leafy vegetables and other vegetables containing high amounts of phytic acid(inositol hexaphosphate) will bind to calcium, zinc and iron in the intestine and prevent you from absorbing these minerals normally. Caffeine may increase your need for Inositol.
